About this event

Join us for our online Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) journal clubs, where we discuss a recent teaching publication. If you missed previous meetings, do not worry! We will send an email with the paper in advance and it will also be posted on the EventBrite page once available. Please read the paper and bring any questions, comments or critiques with you.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of this journal club, successful participants should be able to:

1) Discuss and critically analyze the methodology, results, and significance of a publication from the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

2) Identify strategies to incorporate the SoTL research findings into your own teaching practice.

We're excited to see you all there!

Please note: You will be allowed to join the call at any time; however, to receive credit for Foundations we ask that you do not miss more than ten minutes of the session and that you complete the attendance survey at the end of the session.

The article we will be discussing is entitled: “We Can Do Better”: Community College Faculty Preparedness for Teaching Students With Learning Disabilities.

The following three questions will form the basis of our discussion:

Do you have any experience as a facilitator or learner with any of the experiences or issues in this study? What are your thoughts on the expressed opinions?

What are your impressions of the methods and results of this study? If you were to design a follow up study, what approach would you take and what variables would you focus on or add?

To what extent do the results of this study make you re-think your teaching approaches for current and/or future teaching roles? How might you approach the concerns involved?
